Write Right: Less Versus Fewer

There is a difference between the words “LESS” and “FEWER.”

You use “less” when the thing to which you are referring cannot be measured in a discreet quantity, such as water.

You use “fewer” when you can measure something in a discreet quantity, such as glasses.

Thus, you can have LESS water in FEWER glasses, but never fewer water in less glasses.
