Papps, Thomas G.

Thomas G. Papps (1931 – 2021) was born to poor Greek parents during the Depression. He earned his law degree at Ohio State. He served in the Korean war.

He has tried and won cases before the U.S. Supreme Court against then Solicitor General Thurgood Marshall (U.S. v. Jimmy Johnson). He tried a case (Grey v. Grunnagle) that has become the law in every state of the U.S. (“failure of informed consent”). He established the doctrine of “deliberate tort” in Weyland v. Countrymart Grain Company of Lima, Ohio.

As an amateur historian, he solved an historical problem that vexed historians for 2,500 years.
