In Trying Times, People Seek Books for Comfort, Support

As people encounter more extremes in their daily lives, politically, economically, and otherwise, they seek comfort and wisdom in books like never before

Wilkes-Barre, PA, July 19, 2016 – Marilyn C. lost her job not too long ago. She tried to remain positive, but watching the nightly news or even scrolling through her Facebook feed filled her with worry and dread. All that changed when she stopped watching and began reading inspirational books.

Long thought to be on the “soft side” of the publishing industry, inspirational books are seeing a huge increase in sales. “People want to be positive,” says publisher Anthony Michalski of Kallisti Publishing. “Nobody wants to be depressed. But that’s what you get when you immerse yourself in the news or the Facebook.”

Marilyn C. agrees. “It’s too easy to see the world in a bad light. That’s why I stopped watching the news and picked up the books. I began with the Bible, then some Tony Robbins. I then found John Pozzi’s Keeping the Faith, which really helped me.”

Inspirational books are a small but growing part of the book trade. According to the Book Industry Study Group, 92.3 million books were sold in the Body/Mind/Spirit category, representing between 8% of total sales of adult books. Of that number, 34% were inspirational titles like Keeping the Faith by John W. Pozzi.

“The best part of publishing inspirational books isn’t in the numbers, because all you need is one — just one book that can completely change a person’s life,” avers Michalski. Marilyn C. would whole-heartily agree. After she began reading inspirational books, she found a job that she loves and doesn’t worry near as much as she did. “Sure I still worry from time to time, but then I remember something Mr. Pozzi wrote: ‘Today is the future that you worried about yesterday. Stop worrying about the future and live for today.’”

Keeping the Faith: Daily Reflections That Will Build Strength, Serenity, and Passion in Your Life and the Lives of Others by John W.
