A few weeks ago, I was on a panel with 9 other local writers at an Author’s Night at the Montville, NJ public library. And here’s one thing in particular that struck me.
When I attend events for copywriters or info marketers, almost everybody is bragging and boasting about how much money they make. All trying to one-up the others. And frankly, there’s often too much testosterone in the room for my taste.
At the library Author’s Night, it was low-key, warm, and friendly. The authors didn’t talk about money or brag in any way. They were all nice people. Humble. And they all clearly wrote for the love of books and the joy of writing. It was refreshing, relaxing, and utterly enjoyable.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love making money from my writing, both for myself and my clients.
And so in my freelance writing practice I use the 90/10 Rule.
Where 90% of my time is spent doing those assignments, writing ads, sales letters, landers, direct mail, email, white papers, and websites.
The other 10% of my time I spend writing things just for fun, regardless of how much or little money they make.
Including . . .
Fiction: https://a.co/d/dwpo74J

And soon, two more of my books will be published by Kallisti Publishing’s new imprint, ARIS Books, one of which will be a collection of science fiction stories I’ve written through the years and another about the future of Artificial Intelligence in business.
